Well apparently not.
Says London based studio Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad who created “Auto Assemble Food”, a project where no systematic guidelines or diagrams set in place, standardised food elements (such as walnuts, figs, dates, ham, cheese, bread and pomegranate) are freely assembled in palm-scaled hors d’oeuvre, each piece experimenting with taste as much as with form. The compositions are then photographed, documented and instantly printed as a reference for future re-creation.
Yeah, some of the photographs looked just like Martha Stewart’s Food Tweets, a little gross and explicit but if we look at the larger picture, the project is about people’s confrontation with their food. How we see food differently and how we would interpret them differently. One could make a little monster out of it while another could have a more elegant take with it. It’s almost like a self portrait but more flavorful and palatable. In this particular project, food has become an extension of our self. (Also check out what the each family is eating around the world.) I believe the latter also have a similar objective, but in a more global perspective.
So what will you create for your upcoming Christmas feast and meals? Imagine all that material you could have used!
That said, DON’T STIR THE GRAVY INTO THE MASH POTATOES. TSK
