LEGO HEAD

London Fashion Week and London Collection Mens’ never fail to impress me. There is always a constant growth in British designers and sprouting new designers with interesting visions and techniques. Every season there’s something different and great to share.

Known for their colourful prints and updating of tailored menswear, Agi & Sam is one of my favourite British designers, and they never disappoint me. No doubt the latest collection shown at London Collection Mens’ is a show stopper as well. Essentially what caught my eye was this series of Lego heads on models that bridges between art and playfulness. Yes, we have seen Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 collection’s Lego belt, but that in my opinion was a subdued obvious treatment for Lego bricks. But for Agi & Sam, their application of the Lego bricks was more avant-garde, explosive and organic. The designer duo drew inspiration from their childhood and wanted to create something that is fun and the user can ‘build’ with. They also went onto Toys”R”Us and primary schools for research. The prints on coats and trousers looked like someone doodling furiously on their iPad, but were in fact VHS covers and prescription drug packaging that had been merged then given to children, who painted their own versions.

So good, I can’t wait for more London Collection Mens’.
